What Does Yaḥaḏ Mean for The Big Beautiful Bill & July 4th?

What Does Yaḥaḏ Mean for The Big Beautiful Bill & July 4th? 2025-06-29T19:25:13-04:00

HeThe big news this weekend has been about President Trump’s continued push for his big beautiful bill to be passed. Late this week he brought together to try to persuade holdout senators to get on board with his agenda and pass the bill before his July 4th deadline.

As I stated before, there are many concerns about the bill’s cuts to vital programs and its long-term costs. The potential increase in the national deficit contradicts the president’s campaign promise to reduce the deficit.

The bill in Congress’ concerns has already divided the GOP-led House and was a challenge to get through the GOP lead Senate. The GOP is torn between conservative policies and present Trump’s agenda for America.

  • Greed
  • Power
  • Uncompassionate

The GOP has never been more divided than it is today. Despite President Trump campaigning on unifying the country and the party, he has only divided them more than ever. After promising America and the peace, the president has brought more chaos, confusion, and more war.

President Trump couldn’t care less about what is best for the country and the world; he only wants to achieve his agenda for America at all costs. The president expects the party and nation to bow to his wants and power like servants before a king because that is how he expects to achieve unity, but that is not how unity works in God’s Kingdom (Psalm 133:1, Romans 12:4-5).

What Is Unity

Unity is just as much a spiritual concept as is a physical one. Unity is defined as “A condition of harmony; the quality or state as we made one.” Most of us understand unity as a form of strength and power, but that applies spiritually as well.

Regardless of your perspective, you understand there is power in unity. Who or what we stand with often determines how much power we have or how it will be used. We don’t want to be united with the wrong people or ideologies.

That is why the Bible has a lot to say about unity (Romans 12:16). God called His people to be set apart from this corrupt world and to have union with Himself (Leviticus 19:2, 1 Peter 2:9.) We are to become more like God and not become one with the ways of this world (Romans 12:2-4).

God’s people are to be connected to God and transformed into His image (Acts 2:38, Romans 8:28). God’s people are to work together to bring change to this fallen world (Matthew 28:19). Once we are connected to God, we are never separated from Him or His ways (Romans 8:1-39). The apostle Paul remembered his Jewish education about being united with the one true God.

Yaḥaḏ

After the fall of mankind in the garden, sin separated mankind from God (Genesis 3:1-24). The Torah tells us that eventually, humanity came together to build a tower to become like God, just like Satan strived to be great like God and heaven (Genesis 11:4-8).

God came down and scattered them and confused their language to keep them from uniting against Him. The Hebrew word in the Old Testament for United is yaḥaḏ, and it can also mean, “Together, union, all togetherness, or alike,” depending on the context it is used in.

One of the main teachings of Judaism is about the unity and oneness of God, for there is one God in the beginning and He created one man, the Jewish God is the Holy One (Deuteronomy 4:35; 6:4, Isaiah 45:5). God also formed the woman and brought her to the man to be one flesh (Genesis 2:21-24).

Despite God creating His people to be one nation devoted to Himself alone, Israel often wandered and turned to foreign idols, and eventually God’s people split into two separate nations:

  1. Northern Kingdom (Israel)
  2. Southern Kingdom (Judah)

The New Testament describes Jesus as the Lion of Judah. Because Jesus is the “Other son of David, He will reunite the kingdoms permanently and make Israel into a great nation that will last for eternity (Isaiah 11:11-13, Jeremiah 3:18; 30:3).

Jesus the Good Shepherd

Jesus claimed to be One with the Father to reiterate His divinity (John 10:30).  warned His followers about division (Luke 11:17, John 10:10). He prayed to God that His followers would be one just like He and the Father were One (John 17:20-23).

Our Lord mentioned that there were others who weren’t part of His one flock (Ezekiel 34:11-12, John 10:16). Jesus knew that He would unite the Jewish people and the Gentiles into one nation (Matthew 28:19, Acts 1:8).

Fourth of July

This week, our nation is preparing to celebrate our independence for the 249th time since breaking free from the control of England. Those 13 colonies united together to break away from Britain, a global nation.

The colonists wanted freedom of religion and freedom from the oppressive taxation of a controlling king :

  • Greedy
  • Power-hungry
  • Corrupt

Nearly a quarter of a millennium later, I don’t believe many Americans want to go back to a greedy and corrupt monarchy that ultimately looks out for its own interests. We must once again stand up against a power-hungry oppressor who isn’t looking out for the good of all Americans, only a specific group, excluding senior citizens and the disabled community.

These are the two people groups the Christian faith commands us to care for and protect (Matthew 25:35-40, Luke 14:12-14, Acts 20:35). Americans need to decide if we want to be a nation under Pres. Trump or one nation under God.

Jesus makes it clear we cannot have it both ways, that is a divided house and it will only bring chaos, not yaḥaḏ (Matthew 6:24; 12:22-28)!
