Friend of Wild Goose, Peter Rollins, continues to generate debate and acclaim from his recent release Insurrection. We’re pleased to present this modern-day parable, extracted from it: Every Sunday the pastor would stand at the front of his Church and with a booming voice finish his rousing sermon with a plea: “Each week I go to a nearby town and serve the poor, the oppressed, and the downtrodden; what do you do? How do you show your compassion to those... Read more

The United States government’s support of slavery was based on an overpowering practicality. In 1790, a thousand tons of cotton were being produced every year in the South. By 1860, it was a million tons. In the same period, 500,000 slaves grew to 4 million. [How’s that for workforce efficiency: 1000 times the output for only 8 times the investment!] A system harried by slave rebellions and conspiracies (Gabriel Prosser, 1800; Denmark Vesey, 1822; Nat Turner, 1831) developed a network... Read more

“What does Wild Goose think about [issue/movement/idea} XYZ..?” People ask this all the time. It’s a valid question, and the answer(s) aren’t so simple.  For one thing, we’re just getting started and while we hope to build a better festival each year – we never went into this thinking that we had all the answers.  In fact, for most of us, it was questions that led us to the Goose. It’s important to note that, as afestival rather than a conference or church, Wild Goose is seeking to create open... Read more

Moltmann introduces the phrase “relational ecclesiology” early in The Church in the Power of the Spirit.  He writes that “no ecclesiology can stand on its own feet.  The doctrine of the church must, as it were, evolve of itself from christology and eschatology, that is, from insight into the trinitarian history of God’s dealings with the world.” “The church cannot understand itself simply from itself alone,” he writes, “It can only truly comprehend its mission and its meaning, its roles... Read more

From Gareth Higgins, Wild Goose Festival Executive Director: Things are changing.  And the Wild Goose Festival is part of the change. I mean, it’s obvious, it’s exciting, and it’s anyone’s guess what’s going to happen.  Whether it’s the Arab Spring, the #Occupy movement, or any one of a thousand local grass roots endeavors, people are rising up to give voice to their desire to see wrongs righted, and a society transformed.  Everyone wants change.  Everyone wants things to be better.... Read more

Friend of Wild Goose, Peter Rollins, has a new book out called Insurrection.  It might just challenge everything we think about faith and the world we inhabit.  Here’s an extract: Each epoch in the life of the Church arises from the white-hot fires of a fundamental question, a question that burns away the husk that was once thought to be essentialin order to reveal once more the revolutionary event heralded by Christ’s Crucifixion and Resurrection. Such questions do not address... Read more

There are lots of highlights from the Justice Track or our inaugural Wild Goose Festival. The first for me is Vincent Harding!  What more can I say.  Large group talks and small group conversations with Harding were amazing. Often the exploration of restorative justice and prison reform becomes focused on either the experience of victims of crime or offenders, but not both. It was important that the Justice Track offerings at the 2011 Wild Goose Festival took a “both/and” approach that valued... Read more

The Making Art sessions at the Wild Goose Festival were memorable for many reasons. The creative connections happening across generations and continents, and the conversations about both making art and interacting with scripture made it all worthwhile. Our connections were felt across generations as age barriers seemed less important and even the local accents blended from Canada, the Deep South and New Zealand. From the planned projects to some activities that participants brought with them to Wild Goose, we rubbed... Read more

As the leader of the kids team I am completely humbled and blown away with the success of the first year kids program. It was incredible to not only see the number of kids in attendance but to also work with such a dedicated and hardworking kids team. Each day we were able to watch the kids lineup, signup, bringing their smiling faces ready to participate in creative stations, engaging teaching and interactive worship. Their excitement was contagious! Numerous times... Read more
