Teaching engaged Buddhism?
Here’s great clip about Thich Nhat Hahn from the Religion and Ethics NewsWeekly in 2003 when Han visited the United States.
Nhat Han is a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk. He opposed the Viet Nam War and fled. He developed an “engaged Buddhism” meaning that he went beyond meditation to work for peace and care for refugees. He eventually settled in France where he set up a mindfulness practice center called Plum Village.
In 2013, Oprah interviewed Thich Nhat Han on her OWN network about compassion. You can see the video below.
And two years ago, ABC Home exhibited a collection of Thich Nhat Han’s calligraphy. Nhat Han sees calligraphy as a kind of mindful meditation.”“In my calligraphy, there is ink, tea, breathing, mindfulness, and concentration. Writing calligraphy is a practice of meditation.”
Nhat Han is now 88 years old, ill, and in a coma.
