Texas GOP convention excludes Log Cabin Republicans.

Texas GOP convention excludes Log Cabin Republicans. May 30, 2014

The Texas GOP has decided to exclude the Log Cabin Republicans from its convention, because apparently what they need once the presidential election rolls around is a clear example of how the party is still hardcore anti-gay:

Two Republican gay rights groups said on Thursday they had been denied booths at the party’s upcoming Texas convention after being told their sexuality runs counter to the party’s views.

The Metroplex Republicans and the national Log Cabin Republicans said at a news conference in Fort Worth that state GOP leadership had denied them permission for the booths at the June 5-7 convention.

“It’s time that the Texas GOP’s hypocritical policies and procedures are replaced by new ones that match the general opinion of Texan Republican voters,” Log Cabin Republicans of Texas Chairman Jeffrey Davis said.

What kind of Stockholm Syndrome bullshit is this?  Why are you so insistent on being a part of a group that clearly doesn’t like you, doesn’t want you, and wishes to to see you relegated to the role of second class citizens?  It’s like an abusive relationship.  Just look at what the GOP platform in Texas says about LGBT people:

The party platform states: “The practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans.”

You might think the majority of people Tea Party-happy Texas oppose gay marriage, but you’d be wrong.  Gay marriage is going to happen nationwide, sooner rather than later.  When it does, the GOP are in for an even rougher time at the national level – and stuff like excluding even gay Republicans is going to bite them in the ass oh-so-hard.
