Remember back when Mike Huckabee held that rally for Kim Davis and used Survivor’s Eye Of The Tiger without permission? The band actually posted to their Facebook page:
“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use ‘My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger,’” the band wrote on its official Facebook page on Tuesday. “I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that.”
Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will have to pay $25,000 due to copyright infringement.
Huckabee played “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor at a rally last year for Kim Davis, a Kentucky County court clerk who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
At the time, Huckabee had not paid for rights to use the song. The campaign was then sued for copyright infringement.
An out-of-court settlement was reached and Huckabee was required to pay $25,000 for the error. Half was paid in May and the other half, listed as campaign “debts and obligations,” is yet to be fulfilled.
Huckabee petitioned the Federal Elections Commission to start a legal defense fund to pay the remaining amount, but the organization issued a statement saying he’d need to alleviate the debt on his own.
Of course, it’s probably more of an investment for Huckabee. Did he make more from donations and what not than $25,000? Here’s hoping he didn’t, but I’m a cynic.
