Trump’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week will probably hurt Mike Pence in tonight’s VP debate. October 4, 2016

So, to put it mildly, Trump’s not had the best of weeks:

From Trump’s late night tweet urging people to look up a sex tape to leaked tax records that show Trump lost $916 million in 1995, Trump’s not having a good time.

And, if Tim Kaine is smart, those issues will become Mike Pence’s problems tonight. Kaine needs to put Pence on the defensive on everything Trump has done this last week. Trump selling himself on what a great businessman he is? Ok, what great businessman loses damn near a billion dollars in a single year?

Not only that, Hillary has not had as much support from Millenials as she would like. Well, that demographic is largely passionate about, and largely in support of, LGBT rights. Guess where Pence is weak. If Kaine can stay on that subject, his campaign stands to pick up some real ground in the polls. It’s even a multi-pronged subject, as Indiana lost over $60 million in tourist income due to Pence’s anti-gay legislation.

While I think Pence is certainly craftier than Trump, I just don’t see a way he brings people across the aisle, which is what the Trump campaign desperately needs to do. He’ll probably harp on energy to appeal to the people of Pennsylvania, where Trump is now down (in a state he absolutely must win). Other than that, riling up Pence’s already riled up voter base probably won’t do much.
