So Trump promised to “drain the swamp”, but has started putting all his cronies into power like Steven Bannon, Newt Gingrich, and Rudy Guiliani. Fancy that.

Which is why stories saying Ben Carson was likely to become the Secretary of Education were particularly troublesome. However, Carson has said he won’t take such a position:

Carson ally Armstrong Williams told the Hill that the retired pediatric neurosurgeon would serve only as an unofficial adviser. Fox News confirmed the report.

While Carson was floated as a possible appointee to oversee the Department of Health and Human Services or the Department of Education, Williams said he never received a formal offer for either post.

“Dr. Carson was never offered a specific position, but everything was open to him,” Williams told The Hill.

“Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency,” he went on. “The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”

This lack of political experience did not prevent Carson from running a failed bid for president this year. Trump will also be the first commander in chief in U.S. history to have no prior political or military experience.

The reason he gives is that he doesn’t have the experience to run a federal program. This is odd considering Carson endorsed Trump. To my knowledge the presidency is the first job for which Trump ever had to apply, and he’s certainly never held another government office.

Also, if inexperience is an issue, why was Carson running for President himself?

I don’t consider this happy news. Carson declining any position in Trump’s White House doesn’t mean there aren’t gaggles of equally abhorrent candidates left to choose from.
