Tom Hanks’ childhood was a hodgepodge of divorce and step-parents that all had their own view of religion. He was exposed to Catholicism, the Church of Nazarene and even Mormonism. While he fluctuated on his religion for a while, Tom came to Christ sometime in high school. In 1981 Tom met actress Rita Wilson on the set of “Bosom Buddies” and fell in love. Before marrying Rita, Tom converted to the Greek Orthodox Church, the religion of Rita and her family. Tom has said that his greatest motivation for being a church-goer is to come in contact with the great unanswered questions mankind has always asked. He believes religion is the only answer to those tough questions.
