"Scapegoating Sinner"
An important part of confession for Catholics is accepting that they have sinned. This means that they cannot enter the confessional booth and immediately launch into an explanation about how the entire mess was actually their wife’s fault. Every now and then, these Catholics are simply trying to explain the entire situation but end up blaming someone else almost by accident. Other times, they are feeling guilty enough that they want the disaster to be someone else’s fault. Regardless, most priests see right through the attempt to scapegoat another, and some may tack on some extra penance for trying to throw someone else under the bus.
