Progressive Christianity is a movement stemming out of Mainline Protestantism, an umbrella term for traditional Protestant denominations in the U.S. that have been very influential in American history. Politically and theologically, mainline Protestants are often more liberal than evangelical Protestants. Progressive Christians represent a more contemporary, diverse expression of Mainline Protestantism, and include a broad spectrum of interpretations of scripture, salvation, the person of Jesus, and the role of Christianity in the world.
