A New Old Model for Church

God has made us for interdependence and mutuality, and the church is the expression of that mutuality on earth.  Why fight it then with a professional clerical class?  If it means that I, as a priest, will need to find a paying job Monday through Friday in order to subsidize my unpaid Sunday passion of leading worship, well then, Paul never gave up the tent-making business either.  Who am I to improve upon Paul?  The great sins of our leadership perhaps are signs of a deeper failed idea of what leadership should be.  In the kingdom of God, Christ is the only one we follow.  The rest of us are called to be disciples, whom Jesus only ever sent out at least in twos.  Perhaps the best kind of Christian leadership then would help us get to the important business of learning to work together.
