Parshat Va'etchanan: Deuteronomy 3:23 - 7:11

The V'ahavta by Stainedglasscurtain via Wikimedia CCIn this portion, Moshe is working hard to teach and remind the Israelites of their covenant with G-d and the responsibilities that come along with it. They must teach them to their children and keep the connection at the forefront of their thoughts. This was not a time to make mistakes or stray from G-d as they have a long road ahead of them.

Going into the land of Israel, the people faced a fight. They were told by G-d to fight the nations already there and take possession of the land. The people were warned not to marry into other tribes or to take on the gods they worshiped. They were also told to remove the idol worship from the land. All of this was to prepare the land and the people for the future of Israel. Mainly, Moses wanted the people to know that as long as they played by G-d's rules, they would find success and prosperity but if they strayed, they no longer would find themselves under G-d's protection.
