What life have you, if you have not life together?
There is not life that is not in community,
And no community not lived in praise of GOD.
Real community, Eliot suggests, is itself a kind of praise of God. If culture is about real community, then, there is a certain theology here, a certain way of talking about the ways that people seek to answer the transcendent questions. Catholic tradition has never been content to be a sect, a denomination, because it always reaches for that which is eternal, that which is universal (in Greek, katholikos). To the Catholic mind, culture is always at the crossroads -- that is, the road where there is the Cross, the point where transcendence meets ordinary human experience of the world. Our humble hope is to invite people into this conversation to find what we ourselves have found there: a joy at being alive.
