Meditating on the Maxims: An Interview with Allyson Szabo

Anyway, moving on, what projects are you working on now?

Right now I'm working on surviving my last year of Seminary! While the work I'm doing this year is fairly familiar to me (I've written many ceremonies and sermons over the years), there is a lot of it. We're turning in the equivalent of 30 or 40 pages of intensely researched writing each month. I'm also researching the aforementioned paper on modern myth in science fiction, which is sort of an extra credit assignment that I'm putting together for my own interest as well as for my class and deans.

I had started writing a book on designing ritual, but it has fallen by the wayside for the time being. I'm learning so much during my time in Seminary that I felt it was appropriate to pause until my education was done. I may pick it up again, or may not. What I've discovered at The New Seminary has changed how I think, somewhat, and so I am more focused on other aspects of ministry.

Where can readers find your book on the maxims?

You can find Longing for Wisdom at CreateSpace.

Alternatively, you can search for it on Amazon, and it is available there. My website also has a link to the book: Temple of Joy.

Finally, what is your favorite maxim and why?

I don't think I have a single favorite.

I just spent ten minutes reading through them all again, and I really don't. There are many that speak intensely to me. I admit that the ones that touch me most intimately are the ones to do with knowledge and wisdom. There is a reason I named my book Longing for Wisdom after all. I do long for wisdom, and I seek to continue my education. Seminary is only one step in that process of learning!

Thank you, Allyson, for taking the time to answer my questions. Folks wanting to learn more about Neos Alexandria may check out their new website.
