People of Color Rising: A Q&A with Onleilove Alston

There are many ancient Christian sites in Africa: Hippo, Carthage, Wadi al-Natrun, Axum, Khartoum, and Old Cairo. The normative early Greek and Latin Bibles before Jerome (the Septuagint and Old Latin Bible versions) were products of Africa. It is deep implicit bias that blinds us to the Black presence in the Bible and Church history and we will not be able to overcome racism in our society if we can't overcome racism in our faith communities. The fact is, Christianity traveled from South to North and from East to West with two of the earliest Christian countries being Ethiopia and Sudan. The Christian Church, Judaism, and Islam have a great debt to pay to people of African descent.
