The Future of Christian Science: A Time for Spiritual Reawakening

"The kingdom of God cometh not with observation," Jesus said. It isn't a point that sociology ordinarily recognizes, but it's basic to Christian Scientists' understanding of healing prayer. At the center of their faith, despite its unorthodoxy, is the same enlarged, palpably immediate sense of the reality of God that propelled many other Christian movements, even, as John Calvin described, in times "out of joint." The experience of divine grace defies demographics, social conditions, gender, age, class, and even the hearts of hardened sinners. Like a wind that needs only a sail to catch its power, this tremendous spiritual impelling, and Christian Scientists' response to it, is still the power that will determine the future of their faith.
