Yesterday, my son had his first real “I’m going to give you the silent treatment, Mom!” moment, which was totally scary for me! I thought about all of the years that I have ahead of me that will involve moments like these, and I realized that I should not take for granted the fact that most of the time, Christopher still wants his dad and me to know about all of his plans and thoughts and questions!

The interesting part about yesterday’s incident was that after about half an hour in his room, Christopher was ready to come out and rejoin the family. He spent some time alone, drawing and playing and reading, and he made it quite clear that he did not want me to come in to talk about what had happened. I tried once, and he just crossed his arms and said “Humph!” But after some time apart, he was ready to forget the incident and move on with his day. I’m thinking that girls might not forget and move on so easily, but maybe I’m wrong? Will incidents like these be more difficult with my daughters, or is this more a matter of temperament than of gender differences? If any of you are moms with older kids, please enlighten us 🙂

God bless you all this Monday morning, and Happy New Liturgical Year!
