Beholding the Presence of God Every Day:
Crafting a Personal Rule of Life

with Carl McColman
Saturday, August 16, 2014
8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Hosted by St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church
13560 Cogburn Road, Milton, GA 30004

St. Benedict says, “God is waiting for us to translate his teachings into action.” For many Christians, a Personal Rule of Life is a valuable tool for doing just that — experiencing the joy and purpose of faith on a daily basis. With its roots in the wisdom of the saints and mystics of the ages, but designed for meeting the needs and challenges of life today, a Rule of Life is a blueprint for growth in the Spirit and for responding to the call of Christ: to better love God, and love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In this program you will:
•      Discover what a Personal Rule of Life is, and why it can make a difference in your life;
•      Discern where God is calling you to grow in faith and discipleship;
•      Begin the process of creating your own unique, personal Rule of Life; and
•      Use a workbook for crafting your own Personal Rule of Life.

Author, blogger, retreat leader, and speaker, Carl McColman informs and inspires many with his knowledge and gentle teaching on the topics of Christian mysticism, Christian fiction, the saints of the church, the contemplative life and Celtic Christian heritage and practice.

Answering the Contemplative Call

Carl’s books include The Big Book of Christian Mysticism and The Lion, the Mouse and the Dawn Treader: Spiritual Lessons from C.S. Lewis’s Narnia.  His latest book, Answering the Contemplative Call, came out in February 2013.

Carl has led retreats and classes at St. Bartholomew’s (Amerson House), St. Peter and Paul’s, Church of the Holy Family, St. Patrick’s, and St. Mary and St. Martha of Bethany Church, as well as many other churches of various denominations.  He teaches the class on Christian Mysticism for the Foundations of Christian Formation course for the Episcopal diocese.  Carl lives in Stone Mountain, Georiga and is a Lay Cistercian at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers and Liaison to the Ecumenical Lay Cistercians at the Monastery.
