Exploring Christian Mysticism

September 8, 2014 @ 11:00 pm - October 7, 2014 @ 12:30 am

$100

The renowned theologian Karl Rahner said, “The Christian of the future will be a mystic or will not exist at all.” In other words, to remain vital for the future, Christianity must transform itself from a dogmatic religion to an embodied spirituality. Like Sufism, Yoga or Zen, Christianity has its own mystical tradition of meditation and inner awakening.

This class unpacks the history and core teachings of contemplative Christianity, and provides useful exercises for exploring the practical, transformational heart of mystical spirituality: the wisdom in which, as Thomas Merton said, we all “shine like the sun.”

Students are encouraged (but not required) to read The Big Book of Christian Mysticism by the course instructor, Carl McColman. Each week of class will include instructions for incorporating spiritual exercises into your own practice. While the class is taught from within the Christian tradition, this is an interfaith-friendly program and adherents of all faiths (or none) are welcome to participate.

$100 for the five week session. Registration is by email to Sue Chase at sue@neshamainterfaithcenter.org.

To inquire about this class or for more information, contact Carl McColman.
