Still in Czech – Czech Believers are so Hungry for Teaching

Still in Czech – Czech Believers are so Hungry for Teaching August 6, 2011

I’ve just completed an English Camp with a team of over 20 from our church. There was a total of 60 plus Czech folks who joined us for us for the camp that began Monday and ended last night. I want to mention one of the most exciting elements of the week for me. Each day of the camp I led a seminar where people could come and ask questions about the Bible, Christian faith and Jesus. The first days meeting was attended by about 15 people. By the third day, there were nearly 40 people present. This was a very open ended conversation where people asked me questions about anything they were interested in knowing. Topics ranged from Biblical manuscripts, the formation of the Gospels, the problem of evil, angels and demons, the historical Jesus, predestination and free will and a number of other topics in addition. Yesterday I sat and talked to folks for over 3 hours. The Czech believers were so hungry for information about the background of the Bible and have complex theological questions that churches are ill prepared to address. I was so impressed by their intellectual curiosity and the blessing of theological discussion. One Czech told me that he felt something powerful during our discussion. This is not something I often hear from my students! I am so encouraged by Czech believers’ hunger for understanding. I felt privileged and humbled to be a resource.

I’ll be preaching again at the church in the city of Pisek called Elim tomorrow. We’ll head back to the US at the middle of the week.
