This is a very helpful volume about the Jewish background to Romans which shows how parts of Romans can be read against diverse backdrops including the Psalms of Solomon, Jubilees, 4QMMT, Epistle of Enoch, Sirach, 1QS, Philo, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Life of Adam and Eve, Tobit, 1 and 4 Maccabees, Josephus, and Synagogue Inscriptions. In particular, the introduction provides a very good rejoinder to John Piper’s scepticism about utilizing background sources to interpret NT texts. An excellent book to recommend to students on background reading for the study of Romans!
