The Syriac Interlinear Project

Call for Participation

The Syriac Interlinear Project aims at producing a multi-tier interlinear edition of the Syriac Bible. The project is done with cooperation between Logos Software and Gorgias Press. The text of the New Testament is based on the British and Foreign Bible Society Edition, while the text of the Old Testament is based on the Mosul edition. The results will be published in electronic form by Logos Software. Gorgias Press will publish a printed edition of the interlinear, a text edition with facing English translation (reader’s edition), a lectionary of the Gospels and Epistles, a bilingual synopsis of the four Gospels, and possibly other derivative works.

Scholars and graduate students are invited to participate in this project. Contributors are asked to translate the biblical texts (a literal translation) and to enter the translations with the Logos interlinear program (which will be provided with some documentation). The task requires a good knowledge of the Syriac language, and a good command of English. Graduate students may be asked to provide a letter from their supervisor. Contributors will be paid $1 per verse upon completion. While contributors are encouraged to do 1 book at a time, smaller chunks of larger books are possible.

Those who wish to take part of the project are asked to contact the General Editor George A. Kiraz via email at gkiraz@gorgiaspress.com. The Project’s lead editor is Richard Taylor.
