Litany Against Fear

On a recent episode of Chuck, Morgan Grimes said that “fear is the mind-killer” and the words seemed strangely familiar. Then I came across the quote that reminded me where I had heard them before. It is the a line from the Bene GesseritLitany Against Fear” in Frank Herber’s novel Dune:

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

The Fatboy Slim song "Weapon of Choice" has Bootsy Collins singing, "If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm".
