Israelites at War Video Game?

I have been thinking about video games and education recently, and found myself wondering today whether there is a “Call of Duty” type of “first person swordsman” game depicting stories from the Biblical tradition.

Obviously that might need to be “first person slingshotter” for one of the stories.

But seriously, if there are games that might allow one to learn something about Biblical stories by playing them, much as one could learn something about World War II by playing first-person shooter games set against that background, I’d be interested to hear about them.

It's funny you ask. There is a Bible MMO in the works that's been making the headlines lately.

Thanks Jason! I hadn't heard about this yet, for some reason!

I've mostly seen it on gaming and culture blogs. The news hasn't really hit the biblio-blogs yet. Although, Robert Cargill posted about it this morning.

That hadn't made it into my feed reader by the time I posted this, which is too bad. But it is so interesting that he and I were thinking about the same topic around the same time independently of one another!

I'm a big fan of the Total War series of games(Shogun, Rome, Medival, Empire) and would love to put together a mod of the game based on the the founding of the Judean state. It would take though some people experienced in doing graphics and image editing which is beyond my ability. But if I find some computer programers with a love for ancient history I'm in.

As a side note of self promotion, I am working on a modification of Rome Total War that plays out the Jewish war of 66 AD.

Mike, when it is done let me know!
