The bibliobloggers’ get-together last night was delightful. It was great to meet some people for the first time, including Brian LePort, whom I did not recognize until he covered the lower part of his face (see the photo on his blog Near Emmaus to see why). Chris Brady took some photos and posted them on his blog.
Before that, the Blogger session was interesting, with presentations by Chris Brady and by Richard Price, the creator of Academia.edu.
I missed the first part of that session because I went to hear Jorunn Buckley’s paper on Lady Drower’s correspondence and her disagreement with Widengren about literal versus meaning-oriented translation of Mandaean texts, particularly liturgical ones. It really resonated with some of the challenges that we have been facing while working on the Mandaean Book of John.
The day yesterday also included a lot of chance encounters with people that I had hoped to bump into at some point.
Today I’ll be presenting on Religion in Doctor Who!
