It’s a Girl!

HT Daniel Florien.  Please note that if this cartoon offends you, you are probably still carrying baggage from a patriarchal era.

    A prophetess.

So God sent two messiah’s. One was a girl who was therefore not able to get an education or travel outside her village and is therefore unrecorded by history. The other we know about.

I don’t know why the cartoon should offend.  It just highlights the modernest absurdities  It also gives a new twist to What If….

A poem by jill briscoe on the Manger

What if the manger had been empty, and no angel in the sky…

The place of women among the prophets was equal to that of men.

Women are allowed to prophesy in the Spirit.  Be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid them prophesying in the Spirit.
Who was being forbidden by some? Women?

Why are the bystanders and Joseph looking shocked?

  • Elizabeth Bowman

I love this. I have a t-shirt given to me years ago by a senior male colleague at the medical school, depicting a manger building with a crowd around it and the words “It’s a Girl” emanating into the sky.  No one looked shocked. It was an announcement of celebration.  I wear the shirt with pride around Christmas time to have an opportunity to say to people that the supposed masculinity of God is simply a metaphor adopted by people in a patriarchal era who could not imagine God without gender.

The same patriarchal era (I presume of Jews) could not imagine God being a man-human.  This makes me think that Christianity did not spring out of Judaism.
