But it also spends a significant amount of time exploring how the modern Bible became the Bible as we know it, including detailed attention to the technology of writing and cultures of communication, as well as the relevance of works at the boundaries of the Bible, both within and outside eventual canonical definitions, to our understanding of the Bible and how it took the shapes it now has.
