I received an e-mail that ended up in my spam folder but wasn’t caught by our spam filter. It was not tailored to me as a recipient and clearly is part of a mass mailing. The text follows:

The link takes you to a web site connected with Madison Who’s Who. It says there is no charge for inclusion. But discussions online suggest that there will then be a follow-up call asking for payment if you want more than your name listed. That sounds about right as far as what I’ve experienced myself at the hands of a Who’s Who organization is concerned.
My advice: if you get this e-mail or one like it, delete it. It’s not like anyone needs a printed directory to find academics in this day and age.
