Sharing Wounds

After eight days His disciples were indoors again, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them. He said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and observe My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Don’t be an unbeliever, but a believer.” Thomas responded to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Those who believe without seeing are blessed.”” (John 20:26–29, HCSB)

Jesus shared His wounds with Thomas.

Have you ever been to a waiting room? Have you ever visited someone in the hospital? Sometimes, they start to talk to you about their wounds. They will tell you entire history of how they became wounded. They will tell you the time and place. They will share with you the operation that the doctor performed to help with the wound. Patients do this sometimes. This is one way that they can share their pain.

Jesus shared His pain with Thomas. Jesus showed Thomas His wounds. Jesus explained to Thomas all that happened – the trial, the scourging, the mockery, the crucifixion. Jesus shared His pain with Thomas and it healed Thomas’s doubt.

Jesus is like this. He helps us through our pain. He gives us comfort when we have pain. He shows us by experience how to overcome the pain.
