Redemption Church is Ten Year Old Today

Redemption Church is Ten Year Old Today September 8, 2013

Ten years ago today Redemption Church had our very first public service. We met in the lunchroom of Meadow Lane Elementary for our first year, every week the place smelled like tacos. We had to burn incense to get the smell out. But people showed up, and we fell in love with each other. We moved that year to Prairie Trail Jr. High, then Olathe Northwest High School for about five years. We bought our building two years ago and have been enjoying having a parish, a neighborhood, and neighbors that we are still trying to learn how to serve well ever since. So today, we’re going to have a party and celebrate. I can’t wait.

I’ve been thinking about the last 10 years all week, all of the hard work and especially all of the people who have invested in this community. I think of everyone who was a part, those who have left, those who have stayed & are still serving. I think of all of the friendships & great work we have done, and how God has been so incredibly faithful. I am in awe. These people serve as a constant reminder to me that there is incredible power in weakness, vulnerability and brokenness. These humble Christians give me hope, they make me believe that the kingdom is a kingdom of peace. I’m so glad to be roped up with this crazy church, these ragamuffin people.

Happy Birthday Redemption Church! I love you guys!
