Biblical Hebrew Independent Study

Biblical Hebrew Independent Study April 5, 2010

In the near future I may be involved in working with one or two students interested in doing some Biblical Hebrew as an independent study. This would certainly not have the same format as a class with a significant number of students that met 2-3 times each week. And so I thought I’d see whether any readers who have taught or studied Hebrew recently have recommendations on books and perhaps other educational materials (such as CDs or software). I know a lot has been published since Lambdin, and would value having more recent textbooks drawn to my attention – in particular ones that are useful for the format of supervised by semi-independent learning.

I’m also curious, since this got some discussion on blogs a while back, whether anyone has approaches Biblical Hebrew either through, or in conjunction with, the learning of modern Hebrew. I’m familiar with some educational resources for modern Hebrew and am interested in finding ways to utilize at least some of them to facilitate student language acquisition.

As always, your input is appreciated!
