Using Scripture Unscripturally

Using Scripture Unscripturally August 23, 2010

In my Sunday School class yesterday, one subject that came up was the fact that even language from the Bible can be used to do harm to others, in ways that are as unbiblical as the language they use is, in one sense, Biblical.

While we talked about actual speech, it later struck me that an even clearer example is the tendency of American Christians to put Bible verses on placards and carry them around at protests.

When does anyone in the Bible ever do that?! Do some Christians imagine Moses coming down Mt. Sinai carrying the Ten Commandments on two placards or protest signs?

Feel free to mention other examples of the unbiblical use of the Bible, of the unscriptural use of Scripture.
