Quote of the Day (Andre Gide)

A student included this quotation, attributed to French author Andre Gide, in an essay this semester:

“Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.”

I just read it a few moments ago for the first time, as I was grading, and thought I’d share it. Thoughts?

I think that a better illustration might be, "If you leave no room in your mind for doubt, it will burst at the smallest uncertainty." :-)Peace,-Steve

If I quote that, is the author Steve Caruso? :)

Hehe, aye that one was mine.(Although I admit, given how tired I am tonight, I did a quick Google search just to be *sure* I didn't absorb it from somewhere else. :-) )Peace,-Steve

I Googled it too, and was impressed that the search already led to this post as a result! :)

Well, I think seeking the truth, or truth-seekers are more humble than those who claim to already know the truth, or the 'whole truth', if that makes sense. Those that know they don't know—and are constantly seeking—are continually reminded of their own limited understanding which I think keeps them humble and intellectually honest.

Does Monsieur Andre Gide provide the truth that now needs to be doubted?RAP
