Amazing Grace (Gotta Catch ‘Em All)

The blog Political Jesus shared this version of the modernized hymn “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)” as an illustration of how widespread this particular meter – known for that very reason as “common meter” – is. While I think there may be some on the list given there that do not work, many do.

      That could be interesting – but setting it to “America The Beautiful” or the Pokemon theme song could be traumatic…

      There was a case of “there is a Green Hill” being set to “House of the Rising Sun” many years ago at least here in Australia. While I will admit that the tune admirably fits the words, I, personally, had a problem with it. Viz. I knew the original words and couldn’t quite relate to those words being equated with a brothel
