put down the glue gun and step away from the glitter. The importance of teaching kids real art…

... I had no particular religious upbringing as a child. The child-rearing trends of the 70's left much to be desired. The one practiced in my home was the belief that children should not be forced into their parent's religion but to wander aimlessly in a spiritual wasteland until Hell gobbles them whole experience all the world has to offer then pick a system of beliefs that works for them. Bosh.At least I had art. I lived in the Chrysler Museum as a child, mostly because our apartment … [Read more...]

Memorial of St. Hilary of Poitiers…

... Ever the spiritual slacker, some days the closest I get to piety is looking at the calendar to see who's the Saint of The Day. It's something I suppose. At least it keeps me in the liturgical rhythm* of the Church.I use to update my blog daily with pictures and a brief synopsis of each day's saint, but the Church proved to have more saints than I had time and the practice ceased. A makeover. It needs to be razed and salted…

... Remember this thing, the monster of Stazione Termini in Rome? Well, it's getting a 'makeover'. I know it's just a makeover but at least it's a small recognition that the thing is ugly and looks more like Mussolini than Bl. John Paul II. What ever happened to making art look like stuff, recognizable stuff, not all this lazy abstract conceptual garbage? Oh... because that would require real skill and talent. … [Read more...]
