Circle: my own version of “interfaith dialogue”

Three women sit around a table laden with cookies and candles. We are here to bare our souls and to connect to each other, to "Higher Power" and to our own inner wisdom. The only rule: nobody is here to fix anybody else. This is my version of interfaith dialogue.Wikipedia describes interfaith dialogue as:“…cooperative, constructive and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions (i.e., "faiths") and/or spiritual or humanistic beliefs... It is distinct from syn … [Read more...]

women sillouette

This month at the Divine Feminine blog we're going back to basics. We want to explore this thing called "The Divine Feminine". What is it, how do we know it? How do we experience it? Please dive into your deep wisdom and send us a blog of 100-800 words to Really you can interpret the topic however you want (that's what She would do...), but here are a few suggestions to get your creative juices flowing:         What does it mean to … [Read more...]

How do you experience the “interfaith” community? Let Peace Be.

I thought I was “interfaith” before anybody ever coined that term.  In my family, one was either Roman Catholic and had a chance at eternal happiness, if one obeyed well enough and was sorry enough for one’s sins, and all others who were eternally damned. Poor things; we prayed for their souls, and we collected pennies to send missionaries to save the souls of “poor Pagan babies.” We were very religiously regressive in the 1950s and 1960s, even for pre-Vatican II Roman Catholicism.Religion … [Read more...]

Coming up with our own version of the Divine

I sometimes wonder if, left to our own devices, each of us wouldn’t come up with our own version of The Divine. I’m pretty sure that’s what primitive humans did and I know that it’s what I did when I was, by most peoples standards, quite young. It only took me one dive into the earth at about age five to come into contact with an aspect of life that the grown-ups I knew had never mentioned, something that I would learn decades later was generally called energy or Spirit, a phenomena that was eter … [Read more...]

The Divine Feminine: midwife to the Christ consciousness

Listening to theologian Matthew Fox on the need for a resurgence of the divine feminine in modern spirituality and religion, he noted that Ireland has always been synonymous with ‘the body of the Goddess.’ For those of us familiar with the terrain, the mountains that are known as paps and the rivers likened to lifeblood, this makes supreme good sense.   I have visited many places in many countries with areas of outstanding natural beauty.  Yet, there is the integrity to the land in Ireland that c … [Read more...]

"In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love. In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile. In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger - something better, pushing right back." ~ Albert CamusSister Alberta … [Read more...]

How do you experience the “interfaith” community?

Interfaith Football 2-joincc-484_302

Women of Spirit and Faith was born at the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions, where we saw an opportunity to invite women who are ‘spiritual but not religious’ into the interfaith conversation and to affirm the spiritual leadership of all women. We are continuously inspired and energized by the wisdom of the women who have joined the WSF community. Their creativity and passion are one of the many forces shifting and changing the interfaith community, which we see rapidly evolving beyond dia … [Read more...]

Woman Who Waits

Last night, I was held captive, a kitchen slave tied to the galley amidst formal rooms upon rooms between floors upon floors, half dead among pots and pans cooking for some nameless man who ignored me in his big house. For years I disappeared—search party had given up until a young girl found me, took me by the hand and led me out. Last night, I was a rich lady putting on airs at Neiman Marcus, hair covered in swathes of white fabric that showed my pedigree, customary f … [Read more...]

Accessing Alchemy

Yvette new pic

I am not a patient, nor a passive, person.  I have long since adopted the lyrics, “Every time I feel The Spirit moving in me, I’m afraid” as my anthem of action. I never quite know where I will end up, nor how many people will end up there with me. I was afraid to attend the WSF Alchemy Event in November because I know I have a tendency to soak up free-floating spirits, and I have to be careful to whose aura I am open. I was exhausted at the end of each day of Alchemy, and every morning woke in … [Read more...]

It’s time to run free! You ARE enough!

On Epiphany, January 12, 2014, I had an epiphany that I could leave behind work that was causing stress and free myself for the new.   Once I made this decision, my feelings of anguish that had been plaguing me soon dissipated and the song that ran in my head was Born Free.  All the “coulds”, “shoulds” and “should nots” were transformed into yes I can and yes I will.  Animals that had been missing now showed up such as a snake by my hammock when I was reading and an owl in my backyard tree.  The … [Read more...]
