Oh my stars! I’ve been so busy today, here it is 9:15 p.m. and I’m only just now posting. We have just been practicing for the fiesta to celebrate Friar Andy’s ordination. The photos to the left are typical of the outfits that women from the region in Michoacán that the members of our Hispanic congregation hail from. I’m still busily working on my costume. But hey, I have until Friday night, which is the next dress rehearsal. Related articles by... Read more

Busily trying to finish this book. A Sense of the World: How a Blind Man Became History’s Greatest Traveler by Jason Roberts (HarperCollinsPublishers, 2006, ISBN-13: 978-0-00-716106-5). It’s the inspiring and really quite astonishing story of James Holman, a member of the British Navy in the early 19th century, who went blind in his early 20’s, for no apparent reason. Despite his blindness, he manages a lifestyle that would leave most seeing people gasping for breath. I’m about three quarters of... Read more

“Tomorrow” is the theme for the month for National Blog Posting Month, and I can’t help but think that it’s perhaps not the best one. I put far too many things off until tomorrow as it is. So far today, I’ve gotten about nothing done, so perhaps I’ll get more done tomorrow!  The text at the bottom says: Hard work often pays off after time,  but laziness always pays off now. It’s so beautiful . . .    Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s The Ecstasy of St. Teresa of Avila I was trying to work in into my header picture some way, but no luck yet. I’m not much of a Photo-Shopper, I’m afraid. I just can’t believe how Bernini was able to sculpt, in marble, a woman in such a rich and soft moment. Even though St. Teresa describes her ecstasy in great detail, and it’s clear from her description that it’s... Read more

We sang this song at the 9:00 a.m. Mass the morning, and it just perfectly expresses how I feel today. Love always brings a song to my heart. How Can I Keep from Singing Music: QUAKER HYMN, attributed to Robert Lowry, 1826-1899 Lyrics att. to Robert Lowry; Alternate verse 3 by Doris Plenn Verse 1: My life flows on in endless song; Above earth’s lamentation. I hear the real though far-off hymn That hails a new creation. Refrain: No storm... Read more

Usually, of course, that greeting is reserved for the Virgin Mary, but no more . . . Because now I am truly blessed amongst women! Sure, you say, what’s with that? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s because I have the utterly delicious privilege of being able to carry, on my person, love letters from the man who carrys my heart with him always. Oh, being able to take it out and read it, and feel that love from across the... Read more

This blogging thing is really addictive. I’m on the computer way too long as it is, and now I keep finding things I want to add to my blog, or other blogs to read or subscribe to, or far too many other ways to waste my time. You know, I always suspected that this sort of thing existed. Now I know for sure. “Webspeak Killing Us All: One Abbreviation at a Time” http://blogs.lifetips.com/post/2009/07/Webspeak-Killing-Us-All2c-One-Abbreviation-at-a-Time.aspx Very scary. I’ve often heard people jokingly remark about how they know someone whose house is so clean that surely, they must have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). And that may, in fact, be true. But it certainly isn’t how my OCD manifests itself–though sometimes I wish that it was. Maybe . . . <grin> Instead, as I think I’ve just figured out this morning, it’s an irrational avoidance of making telephone calls. Calls to pay bills, calls to the lawyer, to Social Security,... Read more
