“Never look down to test the ground before taking your next step; only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find the right road.”
Dag Hammarskjold
This week one of the headlines out of San Marcos, California – Good Samaritan answers family’s note sent with balloon to mom in heaven made National News. A story that spotlighted the use of surrendering to spirit.
After many years, Renee Finney, a 42 year old mom of three lost her battle with cancer. Without any money to have for a funeral or to bury their mom, a friend of one Renee’s kids suggested sending a letter to heaven, asking their mom to help. Although feeling completely ridiculous, the three kids sat down and wrote out letters, tied them to three balloons and sent them off to their mom. One day later, those balloons, with letters attached, showed up on Yvette Melton’s doorstep, and instead of tossing in the garbage, something told her to read the letters which prompted her to put the name in Google. And there was Renee Finney’s obituary. This complete stranger, along with the company that she works for, without hesitation began raising funds to help give Renee a funeral and offer some peace to her kids. They weren’t able to raise all of the funds, and so if you’d like to help the family with burial costs, you can contact Yvette Melton at [email protected]. Regardless of the amount of money raised, those kids put out FAITH – They Forwarded All Issues To Heaven.
A couple of weeks ago I had a young man in my office. He had recently lost his wife of just two years in a tragic accident. Their beautiful eight month old daughter sat on his knee. It was amazing to see how much little girl resembled her mom who stood right next to them, in spirit. Obviously still grieving for his wife, his wife asked me to tell him how proud she was of him for staying true to who he was, and for constantly talking to her. “He was always a chatter box,” she laughed. “As will Meredith be. He’s in for some trouble!” He confirmed that he spoke to his bride several times a day, asking her everything from how to get stains out of clothes to how to make her homemade macaroni and cheese.
“I should have paid more attention,” he cried, but I do hear her. In my head,” he confirmed. “That probably sounds nuts.”
I smiled and shook my head at him, “And you say this to the person who talks to those on the Other Side?” I teased.
He laughed, but quickly grew somber. “I only hear her when I let all expectations go. When I surrender. When I am upset or anxious, I don’t hear her.”
I nodded with understanding. We lose the connection when we’re stressed, but when we surrender and stop controlling – the line becomes clear.
Have you lost your connection? Have you stopped your FAITH?
Yogi Bhajan said, “You surrender to a lot of things which are not worthy of you. I wish you would surrender to your radiance…your integrity…your beautiful human grace.”
It isn’t just about being persistent, but being consistent, in every thing you do, including talking to your loved ones on the Other Side, prayer, ethics, etc.
Ways to Surrender:
- Don’t take life too seriously
- Spend more time with good thoughts, release the bad thoughts
- Let go of what isn’t working
- Build bridges instead of walls
- Be kind, including to yourself
- Be consistent
- Live in the moment
- Don’t worry so much about quantity, but instead about quality
In the end, have FAITH – Forward All Issue To Heaven.
