Guess what eerily familiar name I came across in the latest issue of the newsletter of the American Anthropology Association, Anthropology News?  None other than my dear wife, who has penned a piece entitled "American Muslim Women on Campus".

She’d mentioned it to me, but being senile I’d completely forgotten about it. Which is a rare benefit of a dodgy memory–all positive experiences are unexpected blessings, mana from Heaven.

It’s a summary of her research on American Muslim women experiences at the unversity.

Here’s the first paragraph.

What kinds of religious, ethnic and cultural identities do American Muslim women undergraduates construct? Are these women, in forming their subjectivities, facilitated or inihibited by university climates? How far, and in what ways, do campus emerge as "diverse" and "plural" in the experiences of Muslim women undergraduates?

Unfortunately, their website does not yet have the table of contents for the May 2007 issue, but I’m sure it’ll be there soon.

I’d urge you to go buy a copy, but my guess is that precious few bookstores carry AN

Shabash, Shabana.
