Tech support gets medieval

I stopped by a cafe to study tonight and bumped into fellow Athenian Nancy, who shared this very funny skit from Norwegian TV that translates the typical tech support travails faced by IT pros everywhere into medieval terms. 

I particularly liked the monk’s frustrated slaps at the book. 

Great stuff. 

It’s always fun to hear Norwegian, too.  Coming from Danish, I find it easier to follow than Swedish.  (But then, unlike native speakers of Danish, I’m translating twice.)

A.k.a. Medieval
Helpdesk. This video makes fun of moderns newbie computer users by
illustrating – in a way fully understandable to them – how silly some
of their questions are by creating a similar problem in the Middle Ages.

It’s
from a show called Øystein & Meg (Øystein & I) produced by the
Norwegian Broadcasting television channel (NRK) in 2001. The spoken
language is Norwegian. It’s written by Knut Nærum and performed by
Øystein Bache and Rune Gokstad.

Which reminds me.  I think the world would be a more heroic place if more people were named "Øystein" and "Rune".   Perhaps I am in need of a "The 13th Warrior" fix, a movie that delightfully mixes Islam with Vikings.  What more could I ask for?  (Critics be damned–this is a classic on par with "Citizen Kane".)

Speaking of names, have always lamented the aesthetic clash between my first and last names.  The multicultural confusion of it aside, you’re just not supposed to get so painfully prosaic a last name when you’re named "Svend".  Should’ve drawn "Sigurdsen", or at the very least "Jensen" (which in addition to being the Danish equivalent of "Smith", has the virtue of being duosyllabic).  But such is life.

But it can always be worse.  At least I didn’t end up with "Bin Laden" .  Or  "Dahmer".
