MAGA Demonized Catholic AOC; Then she said, “There is Nothing Holy About……..”

Since the day Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) arose to public life in 2016, I heard nothing but venom and demonization about her from MAGA Republicans, not conservatives only, but die-hard Trump supporters who falsely equate The Republican party with godliness as equating the Democratic party with godliness would also be.  Some of key choice words for AOC I heard were/are: “Demoncrat,” bucking witch (substitute “f” for “b” “b,” for “s,”), she seeks to destroy America, etc.  The list goes on until I started watching her in-action and in videos. 

Truthfully, I think AOC has a great deal of character although I don’t agree with her on every point.  Born into poverty, Catholic-raised AOC arose to serve the vulnerable in our country as a Democratic Congresswoman.

In AOC’s video, she claims that there is nothing holy about denying people medical care, and there is nothing holy about kicking a child out of a family. She also says that ALL people are holy and sacred, that we are to love people unconditionally.  We are to welcome the stranger, care for the least of these, feed the poor, and clothe the naked.  We are not called to love parts of people but all people. I agree with AOC on every point in this video without question. There is NOTHING HOLY about……….

1.  Resorting to the actions of Jan. 6
2.  Destroying the lives of the mothers in poverty who carry unborn babies
3.  Destroying lives at the border and ripping children away from their parents
4.  Withholding maternity and family medical leave
5.  Flippantly handling COVID in a way that results in a million American deaths
6.  Spreading deadly conspiracy theories and misinformation through right-winged media
7. Destroying the environment
8.  Increasing gun violence by dissolving reasonable gun restrictions
9.  Harming our education system resulting in harming children
10.  Deliberately fighting against scientific and historical facts resulting in harm and death
11.  Withholding a living wage
12.  Elevating racism to dangerous levels
13.  Increasing the death penalty
14. Destroying the lives of the disabled, LGBTQ+ people, and their families.
15.  Deliberately trying to euthanize transgender/gender dysphoric children.
16. Wreaking the witness of the Church via Trumpism
17. Destroying our democracy
18. Demonizing anyone who is unlike most Americans and most Christians/Catholics in the country
19. Abusing people into voting for all of these evils (ie fascism) collectively in place of fruitlessly ending abortion

According to an article from the National Catholic Reporter, more than 150 Catholics leaders, including former staffers at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, signed the letter, which was organized by Faith in Public Life Action, a faith-based liberal advocacy group.  “While neither political party or candidate reflects the fullness of Catholic teaching on every issue,” the letter said, “President Trump’s character, policy decisions and cruelty toward anyone who challenges him demonstrates a fundamental contempt for what it means to be a Christian.”  And I add, Trumpian policies discarding every tenet of Catholic Social Teaching and the 2000 Bible verses which support the marginalized and the vulnerable.  https://www.ncronline.org/news/theologians-activists-former-bishops-staff-urge-catholic-voters-oppose-trump

I will close again with my closing from my Faith-0n-View article, “As The hard-political white right married to parts of the American white Church have proven over 50 years of power that they cannot abolish abortion without destroying and dehumanizing everyone else but their kind.  And in addition, the hard-right calls the basic Common Good of society socialism and communism.”  To deny the value of vulnerable life outside the womb is to deny Christ.
