2 Celebrity Couples that Make Marriage Look Fun

2 Celebrity Couples that Make Marriage Look Fun March 10, 2015

I love TV.  There, I admitted it.  I wish I didn’t love it so much.  I do love to read too…really, I do.  However, these days, while nursing a newborn at 3 A.M., television has become a calming refuge for me.  Honestly, my braincells have decided to take a vacation while I work this whole sleep deprivation thing out, so I can hardly process or sustain the attention needed to dive into the many good books on my bedside table.  So, for now, TV is my distraction of choice, and that is not altogether a bad thing.

When my TV is turned on (and my kids aren’t choosing the channel), it is usually tuned into HGTV, TLC, Food Network, or Hallmark.  I LOVE reality shows having to do with home design or fashion the most.  As I have been indulging in more and more tube time, I have been pleasantly surprised by a few great examples of real, happily married couples on TV.  In a society with so many struggling marriages and a generally negative view of marriage, I love seeing these positive role models on my screen.

So, who are they?  Here are 2 real life TV couples that make marriage look fun:

1.  Chip and Joanna Gaines on HGTV’s  “Fixer Upper”

Okay, I’m a little obsessed with this show.  I love all the design ideas, but I really love watching how Chip and Joanna Gaines treat each other throughout each episode.  “Fixer Upper” follows Chip and Jo as they help families create the home of their dreams on a more modest budget.  As realtors, they help each family find a fixer upper in their dream location.  Chip, also a contractor, and Jo, also an interior designer, completely transform the ugly, dated abode into the most beautiful house on the street, complete with designer furnishings and finishes.  The show often includes scenes of Chip and Joanna at home with their four young children and the couple managing their store called “Magnolia”, located in Waco, TX.  The twosome make marriage look fun because they make renovating homes look like a breeze, and anyone who has ever completed a DIY home project knows that it is no “walk in the park”.  They also do it with a smile on their face and constant encouraging words for each other.  They flirt, compliment, and tease one another throughout the process.  You may think, “Well, of course they do.  It’s TV.”  I’m not saying they are perfect, but you can see the genuine joy they have in working together.  There is an undeniable mutual respect and love in their marriage.  It is both entertaining and uplifting to see a married couple collectively using their gifts to bless others and having a blast while doing it.

2.  Bill Klein and Jennifer Arnold on TLC’s “The Little Couple”

I heart this show for many different reasons.  Bill Klein and Jennifer Arnold are the stars of TLC’s “The Little Couple”, a reality show that follows their daily lives.  Bill and Jen are like any other married couple, but they are also extremely unique because both have dwarfism.  With this condition, life is more difficult, but they haven’t let this slow them down.  Jennifer is a neonatologist, and Bill is a businessman.  They both maintain busy schedules and are at the top of their fields.  Over the past 7 seasons, they have faced a host of challenges including failed pregnancy, failed surrogacy, adoption, and even cancer.  Any one of these circumstances can be harmful to a marriage.  With each new challenge, I watched Jen and Bill have tremendous faith and strength.  They drew close to one another instead of pointing fingers of blame.  My heart broke as I watched Jen lose her hair and go through chemo.  Bill stayed by her side through it all.  They were new parents to their adopted son, Will, and trying to adopt their daughter, Zoey, in the midst of facing cancer, and Bill and Jen still remained strong and united.  Even while going through chemo, they refused to let cancer steal their joy or stop them from living a full life.  They went forward with their adoption plans for Zoey, threw a birthday party for Will, went on shopping trips, and even had special time together as a couple.  They never stopped having fun together as a couple and as a family.  Thankfully, Jen is currently cancer-free, and the couple is enjoying being parents.  Bill and Jen are both inspirations because they are determined to press on through life’s curveballs, and they never give up one one another…no matter what.

That’s what makes a marriage different from a dating relationship.

WE NEVER GIVE UP.  WE PRESS ON TOGETHER.

We find a reason to laugh together…even in the midst of a crazy renovation.  We find joy in being together…even in a hospital room.  These couples are amazing examples of this.  They make marriage look fun AND find a way to deal with the stress of having video cameras following them around all the time.  THAT is pretty amazing too.
