This overhang, or balcony is the spot where Bilal ibn Rabah, the beloved companion of the Prophet Muhammed used to call out the adhan (call to prayer). Bilal was one of the most trusted and loyal companions of the Prophet. He was a freed slave who refused to leave Islam when tortured. He was chosen by the Prophet to be the first muezzin (one who calls out the adhan).
