Today’s Full Moon is getting a lot of press because it’s literally the biggest Full Moon of the year – a Supermoon as coined by astrologer Richard Nolle.
From a post on the Astrosignum Facebook page: “When the Moon’s feminine energy is combined with Capricorn’s discipline and drive for success, the result is a powerful, successful and disciplined female. The Greek goddess Athena immediately came to mind as a feminine archetype that knows her own worth and is not afraid to engage in the affairs of the world.”
That combination of engaging deeply in the realm of feelings and the inner heart (Cancer) and mastering the affairs of the world (Capricorn), like all polarities, can be difficult to achieve. The appellation Athena means “Divine intelligence” and she was born literally from the mind of god (the head of her father Zeus).
When we live too entirely within the realm of feeling (Cancer) we risk losing the intelligence of the world that aids us in its mastery. But if we place our entire attention on the machinations of the outer world and building structures to contain our lives (Capricorn) we risk losing the intuitive intelligence that connects us to others and helps us to work together for more effective life strategies.
That makes this image of Athena a brilliant one for the Capricorn Full Moon – she embodies the Divine Intelligence that helps us to bridge compassion and effectiveness, nurturing and discipline, the inner emotional realm and achievement and success. Protecting one’s inner world and loved ones (Cancer) in order to grant success in the material world (Capricorn) is in fact Athena’s domain.
So at this Full Moon we seek to allow our hearts to blossom fully and expose the secrets that lie within – secrets that we hide from ourselves as well as others – in order to gain greater wisdom and the Divine Intelligence that will assist us in mastering the world around us through an intuitive understanding of the way the heart and the mind support and encourage each other and lay the groundwork for a successful life.
