art by Kagaya.  The Moon is New in Aquarius today, offering up an opportunity to surrender all of the trappings of personality that culminated at the Leo Full Moon two weeks ago and opening up to a more universal perspective. At the New Moon the energies of the Sun and Moon are fused, linking the solar conscious ego to the instinctive lunar heart of the soul. Conscious and unconscious, exterior and interior – there is a fusion here that provides... Read more

Everywhere you turn these days the discussion is about guns. Guns are not a new topic for discussion, but the feverish frenzy over which gun rights advocates are protecting their rights to own assault weapons and other types of weapons meant for mass killings is rather recent. There is no nation like the United States in terms of gun ownership.  The (Sibly) chart of the United States has Sagittarius rising, which echoes the expansive philosophies that have always drove the... Read more

You can read the whole article here.  Meanwhile, here is an overview of the major players this month:   REBUILDING HEALTHY STRUCTURES The planetary configuration with the most impact right now continues to be the applying square formation between Uranus (radical behavior and change) and Pluto (destruction and regeneration). Although it won’t reach its exact alignment until May of this year, the two are within five degrees of exactitude which is tight enough to set off fireworks around the world.... Read more

This Full Moon is one of ascension and expansion.  In Leo we celebrate our unique individuality and acclaim the treasure of the Self.  At the Leo Full Moon we must balance that against the transpersonal influence of the Aquarius Sun which urges us to transcend the boundaries of the small Self in order to connect with the greater collective. The Leo/Aquarius polarity is an important one for the Baby Boomers with Pluto in Leo, a placement which has led to... Read more

I had a post brewing in my brain about my mother and her unlived life when I saw this New York Times review of a book called “Missing Out: In Praise of an Unlived Life.” Many of us as children imagined that we were fairy princesses or dashing knights, stuck in a fairy tale from which we will soon awake and live the life to which we are entitled.  Evil parents are truly stepparents, and someday soon our “real” parents, the... Read more

On Facebook today I read both lavish praise and harsh criticism for Jodie Foster’s speech in which she finally opened up about what everyone already knew, that she was in a 20-year relationship with another woman, her “ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life, my confessor, ski buddy, consiglieri, [and] most beloved BFF of 20 years.” Ms. Foster has a few things going on in her chart: her Chiron return which occurs for everyone at around age 51... Read more

This was interesting: College students in the United States think they’re brilliant snowflakes now more than ever before, according to new research. The findings come from an annual survey of thousands of college freshmen, conducted by the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) of the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California-Los Angeles. Aside from asking what students think of their own abilities, the survey also measures students’ economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds along with other demographic data. The survey asked... Read more

A new client came to me because of something involving Saturn in her chart that had come up in another reading.  The information she was given was not only wrong, the Saturn placement was incorrect.  The “astrologer” who gave her this information is online, and on his website he calls himself a “master astrologist” which is interesting in itself.  We astrologers don’t call ourselves “astrologists” – that is an appellation typically found only in critical newspaper articles.  His website also... Read more

Here’s the link to the full article.  If you’re an astro newbie and want a translation into English, here is my newsletter which contains a simplified version of the article.  You can sign up in the sidebar. Here is a look at the major influences for January – see the article for the details. Having survived the dreaded end of the Mayan calendar, we now find ourselves looking down the lens of humanity’s future. I have often written that I... Read more

Photo by Pierre LeClerc I have been AWOL from this blog for awhile, largely due to the illness of my mother who died this past Monday. With my Moon (emotion, mother, needs) conjunct Pluto (destruction and regeneration) it’s not surprising that she and I had a complex relationship. I hated her intensely, yet during her illness I found I loved her with a ferocity that shocked me. After her husband died in 2000 she decided to move to North Carolina.... Read more
