If we could imagine heaven for a few moments, what kind of place could we visualize? How would our heavenly life be different from our earthly life?
There is often a misconception that heaven will be a boring place. Because we see it as a place without hardships, we also think that it would be a gray and lifeless existence.
But if the Bible can teach us anything, it is that heaven exceeds even our greatest dreams and expectations. It would be a place far too beautiful for us to even think of or imagine.
Here are seven reasons why heaven would be different from our life here on earth:
1. We’ll never be anxious for anything
Jesus never wanted us to worry, even in our lives today. How much more in heaven when all our needs would be taken care of? There, we will no longer feel anxious. Instead of fear, we will have peace. Instead of insecurity, we will finally experience the full satisfaction of our desires.
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:31-33 (NRSVCE)
2. We’ll have a place prepared just for us
How many times have you wanted to find your place in life? How many times have you felt like coming home but you couldn’t?
In heaven, we will finally have a place prepared just for us. There, we can finally say that we are home at last!
“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” – John 14:2-3 (NRSVCE)
3. We’ll be known for who we really are
No matter how close you are to a person, you may sometimes feel unknown, or even unrecognized. Because of this, you may feel alone.
In heaven, however, you will finally be known for who you are. And you will be loved for the unique and special person that you are!
“The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” – 1 John 3:1-2 (NABRE)
4. We’ll act without getting tired
The demands of our earthly life often leave us exhausted. We want to do so much more, but we have to stop so we can renew our strength.
In heaven, we’ll finally have all the energy we need to do the good that we desire.
“So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown corruptible; it is raised incorruptible. It is sown dishonorable; it is raised glorious. It is sown weak; it is raised powerful.” – 1 Corinthians 15:42-43 (NABRE)
5. We’ll be free from grief and pain
One of the greatest sufferings on earth is grief from losing our loved ones. Death feels so unjust because it is! God never meant our lives to end in death. He created us to live forever with the ones we love, and with Him.
In heaven, we can finally love without pain or grief. We and our loved ones will no longer get sick, grow old or die.
“See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.”
-Revelation 21:3-4 (NRSVCE)
6. We’ll move instantly wherever we desire to be
Have you ever felt as though your feet couldn’t walk or run fast enough? In heaven, you will be able to move with speed and ease. The barriers that used to hinder you will no longer prevent you from going where you desire.
“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” – John 20:19 (NABRE)
7. We’ll love and be loved without end
Love on earth often means being hurt. We can’t love the way we want to and we are not loved the way we deserve. Even when we love faithfully, death comes and ends our most precious relationships.
In heaven, we will finally love and be loved without end. We will see God face and to face and our loved ones will walk with us in joy for all eternity.
“To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” – Revelation 21:6-7 (NRSVCE)
Looking Forward To Our Heavenly Home
You may be going through a tough time right now. Or you may fear that the good times won’t last.
But fear not. And always look forward to the home that God has prepared for us in heaven. There, our happiness will be full and our love will never ever end.
“…in Paradise, death and the fear of death are no more: in that place of bliss, there are no sorrows, no infirmities, no poverty, no inconveniences, no vicissitudes of day or night, of cold or of heat. In that kingdom, there is continual day, always serene, a continual spring, always blooming. In Paradise there are no persecutions, no envy; for all love each other with tenderness, and each rejoices at the happiness of others, as if it were his own. There is no more fear of eternal perdition; for the soul confirmed in grace, can neither sin nor lose God.” – St. Alphonsus
“But as it is written:
‘What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,
and what has not entered the human heart,
what God has prepared for those who love him,’
this God has revealed to us through the Spirit.”
– 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NABRE)
