Jesus Answers the Prayers of a Sexually Abused Child

Jesus Answers the Prayers of a Sexually Abused Child June 11, 2015

Ever since the Josh Duggar story broke and the topic of sexual abuse has been the watercooler topic of discussion my heart has not only been grieved because of how many in the church have handled the topic, but honestly, it’s been triggering for me as I’ve recalled my own sexual abuse at the hands of my great uncle.

I was sexually abused from the time I was 5 up until the time I turned 14. At 14 I was introduced to Jesus Christ and after praying to Him, somehow found the courage to turn in my abuser. Those two decisions changed the course of my life, and most likely even saved my life.

When I read this article this morning about a little girl who wrote a prayer to Jesus and described to Jesus what was being done to her, I wept. I weep because as survivors of sexual abuse know, telling your story brings healing and knowing Jesus hears and answers our prayers increases faith.

According to WCPO Cincinnati news report:

Screen Shot 2015-06-11 at 7.42.20 AM  In the note, the child said Eric Rivera had abused her for several years. Police interviewed the child who told detectives the abuse began when she was 6 years old.

The child described multiple incidents of abuse, including instances where Rivera would show her porn from magazines and on his cellphone.

When police searched Rivera’s home, officers said they found the porn exactly where the child had described it. A search of Rivera’s phone and computer found 186 images of porn.

Please join me in praying for this little girl who was so violated by Eric Rivera.  Pray for her healing and for her continued safety as her family and her work through the intense trauma she has suffered.  Please also pray for Eric Rivera as he now has to pay for his many sex crimes while he serves time in prison.

I’m thankful that Jesus answers prayers and I am very thankful that this little girl knew who she could turn to in her time of need.  I’m also thankful that when her note was found that the proper action was taken and that no one dismissed it and ignored her cry for help.
