Builders Getaway Weekend

Builders Getaway Weekend April 14, 2013
From Left — Katrina, Juris Mater, Kellie, B-Mama, and Texas Mommy

We were so blessed to spend a long weekend together!  What a fabulous time full of love, laughter, encouragement, rest, and fun.  Highlights include —

1.  A house full of women who love God, the Church, and their families.  Friendship is so important as we walk on this journey of faith.  What a precious gift to have time to encourage one another.

2.  Warm Texas sun.

3.  The beautiful home and amazing hospitality of Texas Mommy — great food, great drinks, and lots of quiet!

4.  Five husbands who took care of 19 children.

5.  Discussions about some great upcoming changes for our blog and the Building Cathedrals ministry.

6.  Astonishment followed by laughter as I admitted to occasionally co-sleeping with my baby.

7.  A serious debate about Crocs, and their appeal.  Three for, two against, any guesses on who stands where?

8.  Only a few “accidents” on the homefront while we were away.  Highlights of those include– one toddler jumping into a bathtub full of clean children with a very soiled diaper, one child who had an allergic reaction to penicillin (she’s fine now), and a few other children who learned how to play poker and gamble.

9.  Three flights on time both ways.

10.  Promises to make a weekend like this happen again next year.

We are recharged and ready to go tomorrow!  Many blessings to all our readers as you begin this Monday morning.

Ahhh, what blessed, blessed times. I’m already replaying moments of the weekend as I go about my mommy Monday morning routine today… I’ll occasionally smile and laugh. We shared in such goodness. Thanks to all of you for enriching my life and challenging me to be a better mother. One look at Texas Mommy’s closets and I am inspired to simplify. Tex, you were an amazing hostess, food, closets, and all! Thank you. Miss you all this morning and so thankful for your friendships. ‘Vieve sends some love screeches from VA. Xoxo

  • Kellie “Red”

And it is cold again here today. I need that Texas sun!

  • Katrina

Yes, blessings abounded this weekend! I am so thankful for our Building Cathedrals community, both the Builders and all of our readers!
And, for the record, I am pro-Crocs 🙂

  • Kath

I’ll guess that Red and Juris Mater are croc haters….

  • Juris Mater

Hilarious. I think they look horrible–although we’ve found some reasonably cute styles–but the convenience, durability and clean-ability outweigh fashion.

  • Juris Mater

What a spectacular trip. It was refreshing in every way–nutritious and delicious food and exercise, luxurious touches in Tex’s house (I miss your lavender hand soap and tea tree shampoo already…), restful nights in our own bedrooms, leaving all but babies back home, sharing our struggles and joys and hearts a decade into this vocation, having no place to go (except a pedicure and Mass), no interruptions, sun and more sun. I’m so thankful for you ladies, and this morning I have a renewed sense of where I’m headed in all of this after an overwhelming past year or so.

  • Juris Mater

And ps–another MASSIVE shout out and thank you to all the husbands. Wow. My husband and sister in law handed over sun-kissed, happy kids and a clean, orderly house to me last night. What a way to start a new week! Thank you, husbands!!

  • Kellie “Red”

You are right about me!!! But there is one other builder who refuses to put her children in crocs.

  • Juris Mater

Another quiz question: which two ladies opted for pedicures? (Pedicures always sound nice, but two of us hate them… very personality-dependent!)

  • Kellie “Red”

The tea tree body wash was pretty amazing. I’m going to have to get some of that.

  • Kellie “Red”

oooh, this is a good one. I should have included that.

  • Bethany “B-mama”

    Nice , JM!

  • Bethany “B-mama”

Utter croc lover here. L.o.v.e. them.

  • Texas Mommy

Still smiling here, too!! What a great blessing to be able to share in this great vocation to love and serve our husbands and children with you ladies. I feel so energized! It was truly like a retreat!

P.S. Tea Tree shampoo is from Trader Joes!

  • Girls weekends are always a great way to bond and recharge. I have a blogger weekend coming up this week and I can’t wait.

  • Also, just a note that the adorable baby in my arms belongs to Juris Mater 🙂
