I was up bright and early this morning, thanks to a certain adorable 1 month old baby.  Josie awoke for a feeding at 5:45 am, and decided that it was time to be awake for the day.  Since she had just slept for 7 straight hours, I obliged, went to a very early Mass and I’m now catching up on my google reader.  In doing so, I came across this WSJ article, “Why French Parents are Superior,” which I found... Read more

Just read this article about the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s plans to re-fund Planned Parenthood – very disappointing! Read more

With every baby comes a room change in our world, leaving me flailing as to how to decorate spaces on a dime.  I had heard of people using shower curtains as window treatments and so set out on a mission to find cheap drapes for a new room soon to be occupied by our 1yo daughter and 3yo son.  There are 3 windows in the room, 32″ x 65″ or so.  We priced out unlined drapes at PBK and would... Read more

The Mother of God, the most pure Virgin, carried the true light in her arms and brought Him to those who lay in darkness. We, too, should carry a light for all to see and reflect the radiance of true light as we hasten to meet Him. ~Saint Sophronius Canticle of Simeon (Nunc Dimittis) Lord, now you let your servant go in peace Your word has been fulfilled. My eyes have seen the salvation you have prepared in the sight... Read more

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation is cutting its ties with Planned Parenthood ostensibly due to the investigations and financial inquiries into PP. Many of us have struggled over the years, our consciences not permitting us to give to the many races and events that friends have run because of these ties since the money that Komen donates to Planned Parenthood frees up more funds for PP’s other works. This is a great step towards focusing on saving women’s lives.... Read more

Brian D. Cohen: Leave Those Kids Alone.   I went to an elementary school where the art work came home beautiful — because the teachers helped us so much!  My kids come home with crappy kid projects from their art classes, but perhaps they are learning more? Read more

I’ve spent the last week exchanging and replacing 3 of our expired car seats and washing the new ones as I continue to nest. For anyone else in the same boat, Babies R Us has a promotion until Feb. 20 where you can trade in your old car seat (or stoller, high chair, etc.) for a 25% discount on a new one. At least it is something!  I ended up with a better deal than anything I could find online. Also,... Read more

Okay, I have hit a parenting wall and I am hoping that some of you will be able to advise me. My older four children take a swimming lesson every Tuesday afternoon.  In the past, my younger ones have sort of hung out poolside, been a little bit of a discipline problem while waiting or played with other kids who were waiting.  Right now, though, I would also like them to learn to swim. I didn’t want to come to... Read more

My son received a really cool ant farm for Christmas this year – thanks Aunt M and Uncle D 🙂 – and our entire family has been enjoying watching the progression that the ants have made through the gel over the past few weeks. When we first received this gift in the mail, I have to say that I was slightly terrified by the thought of 30 harvester ants somehow escaping and crawling all over my son’s room. Thankfully, I... Read more

Our pastor gave a powerful homily at Mass this morning, and continued his thoughts in the weekly bulletin – I thought that I would share some excerpts here, in the hopes that we might all prayerfully consider how we can respond courageously to the situation described below. Blessings to you this Monday morning! Dear friends in Christ: A week ago last Friday, January 20, two days before the 39th anniversary of the tragic Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade which... Read more
