Parents, I just have to share this great CD with all of you! The artist, Steve Roslonek, sings with a talented group of children, and is also the “Steve” on PBS Kids, a connection that I just made after months of enjoying his music in our car! This is truly one of the few CD’s that both my children and I can enjoy at the same time – the songs are clever and fun, and many also teach values such... Read more

I have been working on flinging 15 things a day.  This has meant either throwing away, putting for give away or finding a permanent home for something that has been in our way.  I wanted to give update and encouragement to those who are participating. First, let me admit that I have not done 15 things everyday, though there have been days when I have done a few more, so I think it will even out.  Second, let me say... Read more

About a month ago, we had some friends over for a day by our pool, and the next day they sent us a bouquet of sunflowers.  I am not much of a girly girl, but I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed having those flowers on my mantle that week.  I spent a few days wishing that my husband would spontaneously bring home flowers from time to time, but after I remembered that he shows his love in lots of... Read more

Have one of these (or a mop, broom, etc.)? Ever used it for this? Wow, does it make clean-up easier for everyone!  My boys love it–one rakes and the others sort.  Evening clean-up is a breeze (or at least less time-consuming!) Read more

For the past few weeks, our family has been trying something new: Mass without crayons, paper, books, or snacks. The last category, snacks, should be a no-brainer for us, especially since there are several signs outside the Church stating that there are to be “No snacks, drinks, or chewing gum” brought inside the building! We definitely broke that rule about 50% of the time, bringing a small baggy of cheerios or pretzels for our 2 year-old, but I almost always... Read more

I used to think that my (albeit softcore) lactivism necessitated approval of immodest breastfeeding practices. We’re all in this together, breastfeeding moms, and we need to show the world that breastfeeding rocks. Maybe that means leaving the nursing cover at home and breastfeeding publicly without shame? After all, every breastfeeding mom has gotten her share of infuriating reactions. Like being asked by the staff of a department store to nurse in the bathroom instead of in the comfortable chairs in... Read more

Let’s be honest, this little sweetie is oft in my thoughts throughout the day!  Lucky me… What am I cooking? Last night’s meal?  Chicken Marsala, noodles, salad.  Tonight’s meal?  Nothing yet planned.  Yikes!  I am usually a fervent meal-planner, alas this week never really got going.  I had a few meals that were bumped from last week to this one, so I used those ingredients for early week dinners.  A mad dash to the store on Monday (with kids) procured our staple... Read more

I recently went next door after my kiddos were tucked into bed to return a laundry basket. The sweet mom next door began regaling me with the schedules of her two boys,  5 and 8, their extracurriculars, multiple sports, etc., and I could feel myself getting overwhelmed and stressed out for her. To sum it all up, she said, “It’s only 18 years, right?” All I could could think to say in the moment was, “Enjoy them while they are... Read more

I opened a Upromise savings account back when they were brand new, sometime in 2002, and my parents also linked up to it, but after the excitement of the first few weeks I literally never checked on it again.  Today I was grocery shopping online (thanks to JM!) and noticed the Upromise icon.  I decided to check in on my account, which has $233 in it.  This is money for education which I have “earned” over 8 years by my... Read more
